Things To Do On Lanikai Beach

Sunset and Pine Tree

Lanikai Beach has been ranked one of the Top Ten beaches in the United States multiple times, and for good reason! First, it is stunningly beautiful, and also, there are several fun activities to do in Lanikai.

“Lanikai” means “heavenly sea,” which accurately describes the turquoise water and powdery white sand.

Lanikai is home to the Lanikai Pillboxes, which is a favorite hike among locals and tourists. The hike is moderately easy, and the view at the end is well worth it. The short trail features 2 military bunkers and a panoramic view of Lanikai Beach, Kailua Bay, and Waimanalo Bay. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Molokai. This hike is ranked “intermediate” because the initial opening to the trail is fairly steep. For this reason you should wear appropriate hiking shoes. You should also bring water, sunscreen and a camera! After the hike, you can take a quick walk to the beach and spend the rest of your day soaking up some sun.

Snorkeling at Lanikai Beach is a unique experience you can’t miss! There are amazing reefs close to shore, and the water is so clear and blue that you can see everything all the way to the ocean floor. The reefs are filled with colorful fish and it’s very possible to see a sea turtle or two!

Kayaking to the Mokulua Islands, (“The Mokes” for short), is incredibly fun and is a great way to see Lanikai from a different view. The bigger island of the two has a beach to land kayaks on and explore the island (weather-dependent). *The waves can get pretty big between the islands if the swell is up, so wear a life jacket and be careful!

Lanikai Beach is a great place for water activities, but what better way to relax than to sit on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world? Grab a good book, or headphones, or just listen to the sound of the waves as you relax and soak up some sun!

Enjoy the Heavenly Sea!
